The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) National Conference is just around the corner, and I’m feeling the buzz! Attending conferences like these isn’t just about the sessions and learning—it’s about soaking in everything that makes the experience unique and memorable. For me, that means great coffee, amazing food, and a dash of local culture to make the trip unforgettable. New Orleans has so much to offer, and I’ve mapped out some must-visit spots that are sure to keep me fueled and inspired during this whirlwind adventure.
The Perfect Brew: My Coffee Picks
Mornings (and let’s be honest, any time of day) are all about finding that perfect cup of coffee. Here’s where I plan to indulge my coffee cravings:
I’ve heard Backatown Coffee Parlor is a gem. Known for its cozy vibe and excellent pour-overs, it’s the kind of place I can see myself starting my day, jotting down reflections, or simply soaking in the pre-conference calm.
Backatown Coffee Parlor I’m excited to check out Dovetail for its craft coffee and chic ambiance. It seems like the ideal spot to connect with fellow educators over a cup of their signature brew.
This one’s all about convenience—an easy and close option when I need a quick caffeine fix. I like knowing there’s a go-to spot to recharge without straying too far.
I’m intrigued by Fourth Wall’s modern take on coffee culture. It’s great to have a variety of flavors and methods to choose from, and I’m ready to explore.
I can’t wait to taste what French Truck has brewing. Their commitment to small-batch roasting and bold flavors makes it a top contender for my “must-visit” list.
Savoring New Orleans: Dinner Favorites
Nothing caps off a productive day quite like a delicious meal. I’ve lined up a few restaurants that come highly recommended and can’t wait to experience them:
Fritai Haitian Cuisine Fritai promises a taste of Haitian flavors with a creative twist. Dinner here is sure to be a memorable culinary adventure, with bold spices and vibrant dishes that reflect New Orleans’ diverse food scene.
Besame offers Latin-inspired cuisine with a menu designed to transport you across flavors and regions. I’m looking forward to indulging in their shareable dishes, which are perfect for striking up conversations and making memories.
Maypop combines Southeast Asian and Southern American influences. This spot caught my eye for its innovative dishes and unique flavor combinations, and I’m eager to see what surprises await on the dinner plate.
Must-See Experiences in New Orleans
Beyond coffee and food, I’m making room for a couple of enriching experiences that promise to add even more depth to my trip:
National WWII Museum (Open 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
This museum is a can’t-miss for history buffs. I’m planning to take a deep dive into its immersive exhibits and learn more about this pivotal time in history. It’ll be a meaningful break from the conference sessions and a powerful reminder of resilience and courage.
What’s a trip to New Orleans without some authentic jazz? Preservation Hall is legendary, and I’m looking forward to experiencing live music that celebrates the heart and soul of this city. It’ll be the perfect way to unwind after a full day.

Bringing It All Together
The NSTA National Conference is an incredible opportunity for growth, but it’s the little moments—sipping coffee at a charming café, savoring a special dinner, or getting lost in a piece of history—that make it truly memorable. I’m ready to soak in every experience, from inspiring sessions to exploring the vibrant culture of New Orleans.
If you’re attending too, let’s connect! We can swap session takeaways over a cup of coffee or share a meal that embodies the city’s flavor. Here’s to growth, connection, and all the good things that come with stepping outside our everyday routines. See you in New Orleans!
